Effort + Time = GOAL

August 29, 2019

As an amateur runner, am often quizzed by friends and colleagues, can I register and run in the half marathon that is happening next month ?

In my reckoning to run a good half marathon and stay healthy, you must do reasonable amount of practice and training starting atleast a year in advance. It will involve you practicing running and strength training atleast 4/5 days a week at the minimum as  you build your strength and increase intensity needed before the big day. If you followed a schedule and built your practice steadily with discipline, then running a half marathon will seem like a walk in the park.

So the answer to the above question from my end would be NO you cannot run a half marathon with less than a month’s preparation.

Most of us only see the result and do not quite appreciate the efforts that are usually hidden. While wanting a particular result, one must also be prepared to give disciplined efforts necessary to reach the results.

Warren Buffett, arguably the worlds biggest investor, started investing when he was 11 years of age and today at 88 years of age is the richest man. Now am sure that if you invested with discipline and a bit of diligence for over 77 years , you would be a very rich man too…

So in times when the markets are volatile and your investments aren’t showing the returns that are exciting.. it is time to put your head down and work at the effort part. Ask yourself this question… is my goal post still some distance away..if so then put your head down and continue to invest.
